Discover Takemusu Aiki Iwama Ryu: The Essence of Aikido
Welcome to the Takemusu Aiki Iwama Ryu Association, where we preserve and share the profound teachings of Aikido as envisioned by its founder, O’Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, and faithfully transmitted by his longest-standing student, Morihiro Saito Shihan.
What is Takemusu Aiki Iwama Ryu?
Takemusu Aiki Iwama Ryu represents the complete system of Aikido as developed by O-Sensei Ueshiba in Iwama. This traditional martial art emphasizes:
- The integration of unarmed techniques (taijutsu) with weapons training (bukiwaza)
- The use of bokuto (wooden sword), jo (staff), and tanto (knife)
- A strong focus on the martial aspects of Aikido, including atemi (strikes)
- The concept of Aikido Riai – the principle that all techniques, armed or unarmed, are fundamentally connected
“Take” shares the same character as “Bu” in Bushido, meaning martial, while “Musu” means to give birth or create. O-Sensei used the term “Takemusu Aiki” to describe the highest level of the art – the ability to spontaneously create effective techniques in any situation.
Our Approach to Training
At Takemusu Aiki Iwama Ryu Association, we:
